How will the money be raised and then spent?

The money is being raised in a few ways – by corporate sponsorship and donations, participant fundraising and individual donations.

Is this an ongoing event or a one time walk, etc?

This is an on going event, now into it's third year! The event takes place each year, sometime after Labor Day, depending on the tides and the season.

Why is the beach walk called Sara's Beach Walk? Who is Sara?

Sara is Steven Goodwin’s (The Founder of the Charity) late wife. She passed away tragically and unexpectedly in 2006. It’s called Sara’s Beach Walk because of her love of strolling on the beach.

Why would Sara choose this charity organization?

Because of their work with children. Sara believed that helping children to help themselves is the best way to help them develop as people.

When is the walk being held and exactly where?

The walk is held every year after Labor Day. The date and place vary each year so check the website for more information. The 2010 event is being held on November 21 along the beach at Huntington Beach State Park, Georgetown, SC. The course route is set out here.

Will there be ways for local residents and visitors to get involved if they want to help but not walk?

Absolutely, this event is a great opportunity for the local community to get behind a good cause. People can become a fundraiser or volunteer for any of the numerous volunteer roles we will have open throughout the event.

Is this strictly a local event or will the Foundation work with SOS on a national level?

This event is local, but the Sara Goodwin Memorial Foundation will continue to work with the SOS charity on a national and international level. The Sara Goodwin Memorial Foundation has already sponsored 20 young children around the world, assited with the Building Futures Autism Clinic and the Northstar Foundation training dogs ptogram for children with autism. the Foundation plans to assist many more good causes in the future.
